We’d like to introduce you to three people.
Samuel is a 19-year-old and recently lost his leg in a motorcycle accident. He is a student at Holy Cross College and now will need long term care along with rehabilitation. His family lives in California.
Helen is an elderly woman who lives in the Albany, NY area. She and her husband Gene were driving through Worcester last month when their car was struck by another vehicle. While Helen only suffered some bruises, Gene sustained extensive injuries and has been in the surgical ICU at UMass Memorial for weeks. Helen has been at his bedside the whole time.
The Randall baby was born pre-mature with numerous medical issues and has been in the hospital for two months. They live in New Hampshire and shortly after the birth their child was flown to the neo-natal ICU in critical condition. His family has struggles to be with him every day.
We were thinking of people like Samuel, Helen and the Randall family when we conceived of the Healing Heart Hospitality House (HHHH).
At long last Worcester has a new hospitality house for caregivers of hospitalized patients in Worcester area hospitals. Healing Heart Hospitality House, (HHHH) fulfills a much-needed service to caregivers who must travel 30 or more miles to be with a hospitalized loved one. HHHH is the only home in Worcester that is open to caregivers regardless of the illness of their loved one. This makes it unique in that the only other hospitality house in Worcester serves children diagnosed with cancer.
Healing Heart Hospitality House is located at 85 Lake Ave. North, Worcester, MA – just steps away from the University Campus, UMass Memorial Healthcare Medical Center. Presently, we are busy completing the final touches to make the December opening a reality. Please visit our website at www.healinghearthouse.org for more information or call 508-796-5156. Donations of any kind, including volunteering, are always appreciated.
We are here to help caregivers. If you have any ideas or would like specific issues addressed regarding caregiving, please leave a comment.
